On the 14th of December 2012, Blue Planet’s staff arrived at the office at 6AM and started making boerewors rolls. Even for us, this might seem a little strange, but there is a very good reason for this; that reason is Siyabonga Africa.

An hour later, we loaded up a van full of staff members, as well as a few from Roman’s Pizza (our favourite client) and headed off to Brakpan for a children’s Christmas party.

Siyabonga Africa, a registered NPO assists members of the Brakpan community who are in dire need of a helping hand. Most of the children in their care are orphans, or on welfare, who rely heavily on organizations such as Siyabonga Africa.

Through the extensive charity work Roman’s Pizza and Blue Planet conduct in various communities around the country, they reached out to us for assistance. Heading to the venue, we shared feelings of hesitation, due to the nature of these events.

Much to our delight, we arrived to find a Christmas party in full swing, with nothing but happy, smiling faces to be seen. A slip ‘n slide, jumping castles, soccer and quad bike rides were all on offer for the children (which is not to say the adults didn’t enjoy them either)

After a sobering address on domestic violence from members of the SAPS, the children were treated to lunch. Thanks to Roman’s Pizza, these children were able to snack on this delicious treat – a first for many.

We would like to express our thanks and admiration to Siyabonga Africa, for the amazing work they do in their communities, and for reminding us that Christmas is truly about the giving.

Roman’s Pizza recently concluded their Wipe That Smile On Your Face campaign, where a cheque for R1 000,000 was presented to Matla a Bana’s CEO -Monique Strydom.

Conceived by agency Blue Planet, the campaign donated R1 of each box of pizza sold to Matla a Bana, who are leading the fight against child abuse.

Blue Planet’s MD, Bonnie Lee, went on to say “This has proved to be a hugely successful initiative, and we are so glad that Roman’s Pizza has made it possible to have such a profound impact on victims of child abuse and rape”

Barry Hilton, Alfred (shorty) Ntombela and MTN Radio Awards director Lance Rothschild were but a few of the esteemed guests who attended the cheque handover

Not known to rest on their laurels, Roman’s Pizza has allocated R100 000 to 3 charity projects, as chosen by members of the public. You can find out more about the Double Up challenge here, and how you can stand a chance to win R50 000 for a charity of your choice.

When asked what it took to raise the R1 000 000, Bonnie responds - “It requires focus as an agency, to stick to the cause, and realize the goals of your client simultaneously”

Every year, to celebrate Spring – our little design and branding HQ comes alive with great ideas! Not related to advertising per se – but rather how to advertise our collective love of Spring.

We’ve got a slogan here – Advertising is the most fun you can have with your clothes on. For the most part, we held this to be true – but then we never knew how fun just getting out of your clothes was.

The theme was pink, and true tao form (we’re a marketing agency after all) there was an incentive for the person sporting the best, craziest, identity. Needless to say, the risqué outfits provided quality entertainment to all and sundry.

We take our hats off to our creative designer, who in the name of Spring (and possibly clinical insanity) decided to attend our boardroom meeting in nothing but his birthday suit.

So, if you’re ever to walk into our quaint little agency – please don’t mind the strippers and flamingo’s – it’s all part of the creative process.
